When Alan Dappen, MD, a direct-to-consumer family practice doctor in Vienna, Virginia, first wanted to move to electronic medical records, the high cost, poor functionality, and slow speed of existing options made him think twice. Alan and his son Ben, an experienced computer programmer, thought that there had to be a better way. So, working together with more than a dozen users in Alan's active and growing practice, they built an electronic medical records and practice management system from the ground up.
What was initially envisioned as a simple, internal system grew to be an increasingly comprehensive solution for direct primary care. New users coming in from other EHRs were impressed with its flexibility and speed. The early adopters loved the advanced features and the fact that they could easily chart on their iPad or smartphone. Across the spectrum, users consistently said that it was better than anything else they'd seen on the market. We heard the same story over and over: medical offices struggling with clunky interfaces, unintuitive workflows, and no flexibility for different practice or user needs. Seeing that the need for a better solution went far beyond a single practice, we decided to make our system more widely available; MD HQ officially launched in 2011.
MD HQ is the first EHR designed for direct-to-consumer and functional medicine practices and we remain unique among EHRs in prioritizing usability, efficiency, and flexibility for these rapidly-growing niches.
The best way to understand what sets MD HQ apart is to see for yourself. Watch this introductory 8-minute video [opens in a new window], and then log on to our demo platform to use our system. We're the only company that we know of that lets you try the full system on your own time. We do it because we're confident in the quality and functionality of our software.
